Nature Education and Outbound Activities of SMA Islam Al-Ma’arif Singosari
In order to improve leadership skills of the members of the Intra-School Students Organization (OSIS) of SMA Islam Al-Ma'arif, Singosari - Malang, 38 students of the senior high school followed the Basic Training of Student Leadership (LDKS) in P-WEC on 2nd and 3rd January 2012. Different from other trainings held elsewhere, the training was held in nature education and outbound activities as led by P-WEC's experienced educators and facilitators.
The students were very excited to follow the activities as the organizer admitted that the school has been waiting for five years to be able to have the nature education in P-WEC. They have been longing for information about nature conservation as provided by P-WEC. The nature education included the film screening of ProFauna's conservation movie called Toward Extinction part 2, a film that shows the illegal wildlife trade in Indonesia and ProFauna's active campaigns against the trade; a discussion where students actively involved in questions and answers session about the illegal trade; and some educational games of nature conservation where students could learn and have fun at the same time. These activities were held until afternoon. In the evening, the students received team building and leadership skill materials for their student organization.
Most students expressed their good experiences following the activities held by P-WEC team. Not only would they gain leadership skills, they also had so much fun learning about nature education in P-WEC which has natural atmosphere as it is located by the foothills of Kawi Mountain, East Java.
