SMP Kuala Kencana Timika Papua Outing in P-WEC
For a week, 85 students of a junior high school from Timika, Papua, named SMP YPJ Kuala Kencana, followed an outing organized by Petungsewu Wildlife Education Center (P-WEC). The event was aimed to educate the children about nature and social issues while having fun. They stayed in P-WEC which was surrounded with educational media of nature conservation.
There were many activities for the students including team work building games, eco-tourism, nature education, and live in the village. The live in the Sumberbendo Village, which is nearby P-WEC center, gave new experiences for the students. From morning to afternoon, they followed the villagers, who were farmers, running their activities like feeding the cattle, weeding, and planting the seeds. They also had lunch together with the villagers.
Mikha, one of the students said, I learned so much from these activities. I had fun while learning about the rural life directly on the field. Soni, another student commented, We learned about environment here. Staying in P-WEC for a week had given the students the value of friendship among themselves as well as with P-WEC team and educators. When they had to leave the center, the students said goodbye to the P-WEC team who were very friendly and helpful to them. See you next time, P-WEC team is hoping that the outing will be valuable for the next generation of Papua!
